Usury gang held for kidnapping borrower’s father, cutting his two fingers

In Cuddalore, a gang of five, involved in predatory lending, abducted the father of a borrower due to unpaid debts. They severed two of his fingers. Acting on a tip from Mayiladuthurai police, Cuddalore police intercepted the gang, rescuing the 71-year-old victim and arresting the perpetrators, who confessed to the crime.

CUDDALORE: A gang of five people offering loans at an excessively high rate of interest abducted the father of a borrower, severed his two fingers as the borrower failed to pay the loan and interest on time in a village near Chidambaram, Cuddalore district. The gang members were arrested by the Cuddalore district police following a tip-off from the Mayiladuthurai police team.The Cuddalore police rescued the borrower’s father, a 71-year-old man from Mayiladuthurai. Police arrested a gang of five people. The arrested were identified as Sakthivel, 65, Pandiyan, 55, Panneerselvam, 70, Mariyaselvaraj, 64 and Devanathan, 60, said a release from the Cuddalore district police.The release said Mayiladuthurai SP called Cuddalore SP S Jeyakumar and alerted that a senior citizen was kidnapped from Mayiladuthurai by a gang in a car, and the car was proceeding towards the Cuddalore district. A team led by Ruban Kumar and New Town police inspector Kathiravan attempted to intercept a speeding car near Kudikadu bus stop. The car sped away. The team managed to chase the car and secure the occupants.Inquiries revealed that the gang of five kidnapped the senior citizen as his son failed to pay the loan availed from them with interest. They admitted to severing two fingers of the senior citizen.
