Tamil Nadu: 2 killed, 16 injured as luxury bus collides head-on with truck near Ulundurpet

KALLAKURICHI: Two people were killed while 16 others suffered injuries when a luxury bus and a container truck collided head-on near Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday morning.

According to police, the luxury bus with 27 passengers left Chennai for Aranthangi on Friday night. When it crossed the Pali Battalion camp near Ulundurpet the driver of the bus P Mani, 40, from Karur lost control of the vehicle. The bus hit and jumped the centre median and entered the opposite lane on the highway.

It then collided head-on with a container truck carrying iron scrap. The truck was on its way to Chennai from Trichy. The front portions of both vehicles were completely ripped apart in the impact. Mani and the truck driver R Santhosh Kumar, 36, from Bihar, were crushed to death. Sixteen passengers were injured in the accident.
A highway patrol team and a team from Edaikkal police station rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the Kallakurichi government general hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The injured were taken to Ulundurpet government general hospital for treatment. The Edaikkal police registered a case and began investigations.
