CHENNAI: Suspended DGP Rajesh Das was on Friday sentenced to three years in jail in a sexual harassment case. A serving woman IPS officer of superintendent of police rank had lodged a complaint against the DGP in 2021.
Villupuram sessions judge Pushparani delivered the judgment on Friday morning.
Kannan, another IPS officer and the then superintendent of police of Chengalpet district, has been let off with a Rs 500 fine. He had blocked the survivor-officer’s vehicle in an attempt to prevent her from proceedings to Chennai to lodge a complaint.
Rajesh Das, suspended and arrested after the incident, has also been imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
The harassment occurred while security arrangements were being made during the then chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswmi’s visit to central districts of Tamil Nadu.
A total of 68 witnesses were examined in the case.
Rajesh Das was the special director general of police, Tamil Nadu, at the time of the incident.
