CHENNAI: The district election officer has appointed a returning officer, two assistant returning officers and an electoral registration officer for the by-poll to be held in the
RK Nagar
constituency on April 12.
The constituency fell vacant after former chief minister J
Jayalalithaa, who was elected from RK Nagar in May 2016, passed away on December 5, 2016.
According to a statement from commissioner and special officer of the Greater Chennai Corporation D Karthikeyan (who is also the DEO), T N Padmaja Devi, joint director, directorate of adi dravidar and tribal welfare, has been appointed as the returning officer. Padmaja Devi was the RO when Jayalalithaa was elected from the constituency in 2016.
Tahsildar of Tondiarpet taluk N C Sekar and special tahsildar in-charge of the social security scheme in the Tondiarpet taluk S Madan Prabhu have been appointed as the AROs. Zonal officer of Tondiarpet (zone 4) K B Vijayakumar has been appointed the ERO for the by-poll.
The RO will discharge her duties from the corporation's zonal office on the Thiruvottiyur High Road.
