Tamil Nadu Elections 2021 Live News: ‘Gifts’ for voters continue to pour in
Polling in 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday went off peacefully barring minor scuffles among cadres and glitches in electronic voting machines in some parts of the state. The state recorded 71.79% voter turnout at the end of 12-hour polling amid the Covid pandemic. Kallakurichi district topped the list with a voter turnout of 78%, followed by Namakkal (77.91%) and Ariyalur (77.88%). Chennai trailed with 59.4% turnout. Polling in Puducherry Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam was peaceful by and large barring a few stray incidents. The territory reported 81.64% polling which is less than the 84.08% polled in 2016 and 86.19% polling in 2011. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates:

Tamil Nadu assembly elections: Complaints against Udhayanidhi Stalin, Vanathi Srinivasan
Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Tuesday sought a report from Chennai district election officer on a complaint from the AIADMK against DMK Chepauk-Triplicane candidate Udhayanidhi Stalin for wearing a shirt with DMK symbol and flag to polling booths. The AIADMK sought his disqualification.

Men caught with two EVMs in Chennai; not used for polling, says CEO
Four individuals found carrying two electronic voting machines (EVMs) and one VVPAT machine on twowheelers in Velachery soon after the poll on Tuesday sparked outrage, with the DMK and the Congress accusing a serious breach of protocol. Cash worth Rs 1.12 lakh was also found on them.

Several voters were turned away at polling booths after 6pm on Tuesday as polling staff were of the assumption that the last hour of polling was reserved only for Covid-19 patients, despite clarifications from Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo and by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

54.10% voter turnout till 4pm
Tamil Nadu has reported a voter turnout of 54.10 per cent till 4pm in the state assembly polls, according to the Election Commission (EC). As per the district-wise polling record, the highest voter turnout was seen at Namakkal and Karur with 64.78 per cent and 64.52 per cent respectively. Chennai has reported the lowest turnout so far, with 39.23 per cent. (ANI)

No major law and order problem reported, CEO says
Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Tuesday said election to the legislative assembly was smooth with “no major law and order” issues being reported. The state recorded 39.61% voter turnout till 1pm. Virudhunagar district recorded the highest poll percentage (41.79%) while Tirunelveli registered the lowest (32.29%).
