Porsche accident: Co-accused moves High Court for bail

Chennai: T Charan Kumar, the co-passenger and accused in an accident involving a Porsche car which left an autorickshaw driver dead, 12 others injured and at least seven three-wheelers damaged on September 21, has moved the Madras high court seeking bail. Police said Vikas Anand, 22, a professional car racer and resident of T Nagar, and his friend Charan Kumar were returning after attending a party thrown by Tuti Patriot when the accident occurred on R K Salai.Both of them were said to be drunk. The car rammed the median and ploughed through autorickshaws parked on the roadside.
Subsequently, a sessions court declined bail to the duo. In the petition, Charan Kumar said it was Anand who had caused the accident. It was wrong on the part of police to claim that it was he who had asked Anand not to stop the car after the accident.
He had not committed any offence, nor abetted Viaks Anand. "The prosecution had made the averment without any material," said the plea adding, "The eyewitnesses and electronic record of the hotel from where the car was driven by Vikas Anand would clearly prove he (Vikas Anand) was attempting to put blame on Charan Kumar to escape the clutches of law. Vikas Anand had also approached the sessions court seeking bail with false averment and unclean hands," the petition said.
