Parts of Chennai likely to get light showers today

Chennai: Parts of the city and suburbs are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning today. The sky may be partly cloudy with temperatures around 35-36°C during the day and about 27°C at night, an IMD bulletin said.Across the state, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at a few places accompanied by thunderstorms over the next few days, with the well-marked low-pressure area weakening into a low-pressure area and persisting over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain may occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul and Madurai districts.On Saturday, the city's weather was warm and sultry, with Nungambakkam recording 35°C and Meenambakkam 36.5°C — around 2.4°C and 1.9°C below normal respectively. The IMD added that the southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26. The monsoon has already advanced into parts of the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal and many parts of the Andaman Sea.
