Man slips, drowns while taking a selfie at lake

CHENNAI: In an attempt to take a picturesque selfie at Chembarambakkam Lake, a man slipped and drowned in the waterbody on Friday.

Police said Muzzamil, 30, of Vignesh Nagar in Poonamallee, and his friend Jeeva went to the lake on his bike.

Muzzamil shot videos and clicked photos using his phone during the trip. When he attempted to take a selfie with the lake as the background, he slipped and fell into the water. He did not know how to swim. Jeeva cried for help, as he too did not know how to swim.

Before he could alert some locals for rescue, Muzzamil had drowned.

Kundrathur police station arrived at the location and they alerted the Poonamallee fire and rescue team. They recovered Muzzamil's body and sent it to government hospital in Chromepet for autopsy.
