CHENNAI: Leaders of various political parties have condoled the death of legendary film director K Balachander. "Balachander was among some of the most famous persons in the Tamil film world. He introduced several new features and did not hesitate to criticize the wrongs in the society," PMK leader S Ramadoss said in a statement on Wednesday. CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan said Balachander highlighted the ills of the middle class society during the 1970s. “In 'Aval Oru Thodarkathai' and 'Thappu Thalangal,' he brought out important problems faced by the society through proper portraying of characters," Ramakrishnan said.“Thaneer Thaneer,” a stage play of Komal Swaminathan which was made into a film by Balachander, tore into the administrative failures, said Ramakrishnan.Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E V K S Elangovan said the demise of Balachander was a great loss to the Tamil film world. "In a career spanning 50 years, Balachander changed his approach to films with the changing world.
