Labour unrest resurfaces at Samsung’s Chennai plant
Chennai: Labour unrest is resurfacing at the Samsung Electronics Chennai facility as a section of workers has resumed protests. The CITU-affiliated trade union, Samsung India Employees Union, has threatened to go on strike again, demanding the revocation of the suspension of 27 employees.The body on Wednesday held a hunger strike ahead of key mediation talks with the management and the state government. The union is demanding that employees who were suspended in January 2025 be allowed to rejoin work and has even given notice for strike action. The suspensions were based on disciplinary grounds and the employees have been receiving salaries, according to sources.

This comes at a crucial time ahead of the state legislative assembly elections, putting pressure on the govt.The Korean electronics maker has faced significant disruption in recent years, including a 27-day strike starting in Sept 2024 and a sit-in protest within the factory premises last year.
