Jeppiaar a pioneer in setting up of private engineering institutions died

Chennai: A pioneer in the setting up of private engineering institutions and founder chancellor of Sathyabama University, Jeppiaar died in the city on Saturday evening. Sathyabama University officials said that Jeppiar was travelling in his car when he experienced breathlessness between 8.30 and 8.45 pm. “He was rushed to the Global Hospital,” they said.

Global Hospitals, Perumbakkam said that Jeppiaar was brought to the hospital's emergency ward around 8.50 pm and was declared dead upon arrival.
Known as a pioneer for setting up engineering institutions in the late 80s, Jeppiaar was the president of the consortium of professional arts and science colleges of Tamil Nadu. He had a law degree from Madras University following which he pursued a Master of Arts degree from Mysore University and his doctoral degree from Anna University on ‘Water Resource Management.’ In 1987, he founded the Sathyabama Engineering College which later became Sathyabama University.
