Girl dies after falling off apartment building in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 15-year-old girl fell to her death from the terrace of a four-storey apartment building in Madipakkam on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Harini, daughter of Yogeshwaran of Ram Nagar and Rajeshwari. She was a Class IX student in a Velachery school. Her father is an IT employee. They were living on the third floor of the apartment building.
Around 10 pm, as it began to rain, the girl’s mother asked her to take clothes from the terrace where they were hung for drying. Police said Harini might have lost her balance while trying to reach a cloth hanging on a rope. The parapet on the terrace was very low. She fell off the terrace to the ground. She hit two sunshades while falling.
A neighbour alerted her parents. She was rushed to a nearby hospital. The girl, who suffered severe injuries on her head, hip, and legs, died in hospital.
The Madipakkam police registered a case of accidental fall. They sent the body to the Chromepet Govt Hospital for postmortem.
