Chennai: Four college students were rescued from drowning in two separate incidents at Marina Beach and were admitted to Omandurar govt hospital on Sunday evening.
In the first case, Mohammad Irfan, 18, a first-year engineering student from Saveetha Engineering College, was dragged away by waves while bathing in the sea. Locals and police rescued him and rushed him to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
In another incident, eight students from Kolar, Karnataka, who came to Chennai for a football match, visited Marina Beach after losing in the semifinals. While playing in the sea, three students, Sachin, Rineesh, and Ashok Kumar, were pulled in strong currents.
With the help of fishermen and the Coastal Security Group police, the boys were rescued and admitted to the hospital.
All four students are in the intensive care unit, and their condition is being monitored. Anna Square and Marina police are investigating.
