Noting that a detailed post-mortem report is yet to be received, police said they are preparing a water-tight case before filing a chargesheet. They said the murders occurred in a room on the fourth floor of the Chemical Institute of Technology building on the campus. The room has since been sealed.Police said Gaurav was consuming alcohol with the suspects when a quarrel broke out, during which he was attacked with an iron rod. Hearing his cries, Munithakumari entered the room with her son to intervene. After killing the three, Sathyendran and another accused took Gaurav Kumar's body on a motorcycle and dumped it in front of a two-wheeler workshop at Indira Nagar, though initially intended to dispose of the body elsewhere to avoid detection, added police.
Asked why the suspects were yet to be taken into custody, an officer said they had substantial documentary and forensic evidence, and that custodial interrogation could be sought later if required, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
