Locals fear the American military presence could turn their region into a potential target if tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate. Protesters warned that Greece could be dragged into a wider conflict, expressing concern that retaliation from Iran could put the island at risk. Some residents demanded the demilitarization of key NATO facilities in the Mediterranean.
