Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and TIDCO are planning to offer a bird's-eye view of the archaeological marvels such as Arjuna's Tapas, Krishna's Butterball, Shore Temple, Five Rathas in a cable-propelled car soon.
Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML), a joint venture of Chennai Metro Rail Limited and TIDCO, recently appointed a consultant to conduct a detailed feasibility report for a cable-propelled transport system for Mamallapuram, in a bid to boost the tourism potential of the historic town.

However, experts say the initiative should be more than a tourist attraction and should improve the overall traffic management of the historic town. Once materialized, tourists visiting Mamallapuram can travel from one archaeological site to another in a cable car. Currently, visitors either walk to cover all 5 points or depend on autorickshaws.
