CHENNAI: On Sunday, the seeds for an initiative to plant one lakh trees in the city in a bid to reclaim breathing space was initiated by PMK leader
Anbumani Ramadoss, along with the NGO Pasumai Thaayagam.
The organisation has undertaken to complete this project over a span of the next six months, in the aftermath of the cyclone Vardah.
"There was unprecedented damage faced by the city in the aftermath of the recent
Vardah cyclone. While houses, bus shelters, electric poles were all gravely affected, it was Chennai's oxygen corridors that was majorly hit due to the large number of fallen trees witnessed during the calamity," read a release by the PMK.
