Affordable, interactive rehab hub for kids launched at Stanley hosp

Chennai: Children with developmental challenges in the city will now have access to game-like, technology-driven therapy at a govt hospital, with the launch of an ‘interactive functional intelligence training hub' at Govt Stanley Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. Designed to make rehabilitation engaging and effective, the facility uses advanced interactive systems to help improve motor, cognitive, and sensory skills, offering new hope to families seeking affordable early intervention care. Officials said this is the first such facility in a govt hospital in Tamil Nadu. The hub has been set up under district early intervention services centre (DEIC) at the Institute of Social Pediatrics and was inaugurated by Dr A Aravind, the dean. Established by Ujjivan Small Finance Bank at an estimated cost of 40 lakh, the centre integrates modern rehabilitation techniques within the public healthcare system. "The centre is equipped with seven interactive systems — including interactive core training system, upper limb training system, interactive structural training and speed training system. The systems are designed to improve eye-hand coordination, lower limb function, attention span, memory, reaction time, and sensory processing skills through structured and engaging training modules," said Aravind.This training hub has been developed to provide early intervention services for children with neurodevelopmental disorders through advanced, technology-assisted methods, Dr J Ganesh, director of Institute of Social Pediatrics said."The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to bring innovative and effective intervention services to children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, strengthening early diagnosis and therapy within the public health framework," he adds.
