Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday questioned the "conscience" of former Congress leaders who shared the stage with Union home minister
Amit Shah at the BJP rally while he criticised the Congress.
In a statement, Warring said many of those seated on the dais had themselves been part of the Congress before joining the BJP. "The criticism Shah made against the Congress was directed as much against them as against other Congressmen, since they were also part of the same party earlier," he said.
Warring pointed out that several leaders on the stage — including Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, Preneet Kaur, Manpreet Singh Badal, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi — had earlier held important positions in the Congress.
"There were more former Congressmen on the stage than BJP's own leaders. These leaders enjoyed power and prominence in the Congress before switching sides," he said.
Questioning the BJP's criticism of the Congress, Warring said if the party was "so bad", as Shah claimed, then it was surprising that the BJP had inducted so many former Congress leaders.
He also challenged the BJP to ensure that these leaders remain in the party until the next elections, alleging that the party was using "multiple means and methods" to lure leaders from other parties.
Warring further said the BJP should withdraw the CISF security cover provided to such leaders and see how long they continued to remain with the party.
