AGRA: A semi-nude body of a 20-year-old woman was found in a deserted place in a village in Aligarh district on Sat morning, a day after her 25-year-old boyfriend allegedly killed himself by jumping in front of a train, police said.
Police added that the man, a contract worker, and the woman were neighbours and in a relationship which their families were unaware of.
Trouble began when the woman's family arranged her marriage elsewhere. Family members said the woman had left home on Friday noon to buy medicine and never returned.
Before ending his life, the man allegedly phoned his brother and said that his girlfriend was dead and that he intended to end his own life.
A 12-second video has since surfaced on social media purportedly showing him walking on the tracks, concluding with the words, "The End".
The woman's family has alleged she was raped and murdered, demanding a thorough investigation. The deceased's brother said, "I saw my sister's body. A piece of cloth was stuffed in her mouth, a scarf was wrapped around her neck and she was half-naked. I believe she was murdered and sexually assaulted."
Police said both bodies have been sent for postmortem and action will be taken based on the report. "Proceedings for an inquest and postmortem are being conducted to ascertain the cause of death. Further legal action is underway," said DSP Sanjeev Kumar Tomar.
