VB arrests sub-inspector for taking Rs 50k bribe
Patiala: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended sub-inspector Mewa Singh, posted at police station cyber cell, Sangrur, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state.An official spokesperson of the state VB on Saturday said the accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Kothe Maha Singh Wala village in Bathinda.

He said a case was registered at police station cyber crime, Sangrur, against the complainant and his wife, in which the accused was the investigating officer. The complainant alleged that the accused demanded Rs 50,000 to help him get his wife discharged from this case.Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau range, Patiala. After a preliminary inquiry, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station, Patiala.
