VB arrests sarpanch for taking 50,000 bribe

Times News NetworkMohali: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested a sarpanch for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Devinagar village in Mohali on Tuesday. A Vigilance Bureau official said the accused was identified as Gurcharan Singh of Devinagar village, Mohali.
An official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest was made on a complaint lodged on the chief minister's anti corruption action line portal. During verification of the complaint, it was found that Gurcharan Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to release the complainant's impounded tractor from Banur police station. On the request of the complainant, the deal was settled at Rs 50,000. The complainant also recorded the conversation with the accused.After verifying facts, VB registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused. The VB laid a trap and nabbed the accused accepting the bribe money from the complainant. VB sleuths also claimed to have recovered the bribe money from the possession of the accused, who will be produced in court on Wednesday. MSID:: 128753351 413 |
