Abohar: A 23-year-old woman from Abohar was allegedly raped and held captive for around 10 days after being taken to Rajasthan by an acquaintance on the pretext of work.
The accused, identified as Mangal Singh, knew the rape survivor and allegedly took her along on March 23. The survivor said he took away her mobile phone to prevent her from contacting family.
She was taken to Sri Ganganagar, Jaipur, Bikaner and Haridwar, and later kept at a house in Sri Ganganagar, where she was allegedly subjected to repeated assault.
The survivor alleged that the accused also took her gold jewellery. She later managed to get hold of the accused's phone and contacted her husband and told him her ordeal. After this, her husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law arrived in Rajasthan to retrieve her. However, before they could reach her, the accused abandoned the woman in Sri Ganganagar and fled.
Later, the woman was brought back and admitted to a hospital for a medical examination after a police complaint. The survivor's husband claimed that he previously filed a missing person's complaint, but the police failed to act on time. They have now filed a fresh complaint with police.
