SC panel seeks police report on Warring’s ‘viral clip’
Chandigarh: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken suo motu notice of a purported video clip in which Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring allegedly used derogatory language regarding the AAP govt's cash assistance scheme for women.Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said cabinet minister Baljit Kaur brought the matter to the commission's attention, alleging Warring used caste-based slurs against Dalits during the urban local body election campaign. The commission has sought a report from the Muktsar SSP by May 29 and directed the police to take a voice sample from Warring for forensic examination. Warring rejected the charges, claiming the clip is a fake being recirculated after seven years to coincide with the local body elections. He has written to the DGP and the State Election Commission seeking an FIR against those circulating the recording. He further questioned the commission's decision to take suo motu notice without first verifying the clip's authenticity. "This only proves there is a definite design behind circulating this clip during the elections," Warring said. He asserted that the culprits behind the "malicious campaign" would eventually be identified and dealt with strictly according to law, adding he is proceeding with legal action against all parties involved.
