CHANDIGARH: The sim card used by accused Baljeet Kaur in her mobile phone to contact Jagtar Singh Hawara inside Burail jail was bought from a shop in Sarhind.
Conspirator Gurnam Singh who was arrested by police on Thursday has identified the shopkeeper from whom the two sim cards were purchased. Police is learnt to have taken Gurnam to Sarhind where he identified the shopkeeper.
The two sim cards of a well-known telecom company were used by Baljeet to get in touch with Hawara on a mobile phone which she borrowed from Gurnam Singh.
Sources in UT police said that during interrogation, Gurnam Singh has disclosed that he has kept the handset at his residence in Hajipur village in Patiala district which the police will now recover from his residence.
Baljeet had borrowed this handset from Gurnam, as her mobile phone was not working. She returned the mobile phone to Gurnam after the escape, at which he is learnt to have remarked, "I know the work has been done."
Police will now confront Gurnam Singh and Baljeet Kaur to get more details of the escape plan from them. So far Baljeet has not told the police that where she had dropped the escapees.
Police will also try to get the details of possible hide-outs from the accused. Role of Gurnam and Lakwhinder in the escape is also yet to come out.
