Rainfall keeps temperatures below normal in HP
Shimla: Amid an orange alert, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in many parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, keeping both the minimum and maximum temperatures below normal.It rained in parts of Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla districts. Thunderstorms, hailstorms and gusty winds were also recorded in isolated parts of the state, including in areas of Shimla district.The rainfall during the last few days has kept the mercury below normal in most parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 31℃ on Monday, which was 6.4 degrees below normal.Shimla recorded the maximum temperature of 18.8℃, 4.9 degrees below normal; Sundernagar 25.6℃, 7.6 degrees below normal; Bhuntar 20.3℃, 9.6 degrees below normal; Kalpa 14.9℃, 4.6 degrees below normal; Dharamshala 27.1℃, 2.7 degrees below normal; Mandi 26.2℃, 6.6 degrees below normal; and Solan 26℃, 4.5 degrees below normal.Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 3.5℃ on Monday.In view of the continuous rainfall in Mandi district, the district administration has issued an advisory, urging all residents to remain cautious. Deputy commissioner Apoorv Devgan said the Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert until May 5, followed by a yellow alert warning thereafter."The district recorded around 70% above-normal rainfall in April this year, and above-normal rainfall is also expected in May. In such a situation, all citizens need to exercise special caution. The people temporarily residing near rivers and streams should shift to safer locations," said the DC.MSID:: 130800077 413 |
