Bathinda: Punjab reported 16 new farm fire incidents on Monday, taking the cumulative count so far this season in the state to 30. Madhya Pradesh continued to top the list with 18,912 cases.
Of the 933 crop residue burning cases reported across five states on Monday, Madhya Pradesh recorded 536 incidents. The total count jumped to 26,909, with MP registering 70% of these cases.
As per the Consortium for Research on Agroecosystem Monitoring and Modeling from Space (CREAMS), MP has reported over 50% of the crop residue burning cases in the last five years.
Of the total 225,448 cases reported since 2022, MP recorded 1,13,598 cases (till April 20, 2026), followed by Uttar Pradesh (53,911), Punjab (48,007), Haryana (9,812) and Delhi (120).
The maximum 2,857 burning cases were reported from Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh. Till April 20 this season, 39 districts of MP and UP have reported over 100 burning cases each.
During the paddy harvesting in the last kharif season, MP recorded 17,067 cases, UP 7,290, and Punjab registered 5,114 incidents till Nov 30, 2025.
