Punjab Police DSP dies after accidental firing while cleaning service weapon
JALANDHAR: A Punjab Police DSP died after a bullet from his service weapon was accidentally fired on Tuesday morning at his residence in the police complex in Phagwara. Police officials claimed it was an “accidental fire” that occurred while the DSP was cleaning his service weapon. DSP Yogesh Sharma, in his mid-fifties, was working with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and was recently shifted to the Bureau of Investigation.“He was at his residence in the police complex, along with the Phagwara Sadar Police Station, and his family was also present. The incident took place around 7.30 am. After the bullet pierced through his chest, he cried and asked his mother to save him. He was rushed to a hospital by his family and the police personnel, but by the time he reached there, he died,” said Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma.“It came out that he was cleaning his service weapon and a bullet was fired accidentally,” said Sharma.
