Panjab University student council elections results out
CHANDIGARH: Students' Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) and its allies have swept the Panjab University Students' Council (PUSC) elections held on Friday, beating the rival alliance led by Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) to clinch all three posts.SUPU, along with Haryana Students' Association (HRA) and Students' Organisation of India (SOI) were not the clear favourites though they had won rather comfortably last year. SOPU president Satinder Satti will head the PUSC for the next one year, which has its offices in the Students' Centre. The scenario till now is quite the opposite in the city colleges as PUSU managed to win the elections in DAV College and Government Post Graduate College. Celebrations have already begun in these colleges with PUSU leaders dancing to the tunes of Punjabi 'dhol'.But on PU campus, the last minute directive not to allow the traditional victory procession acted as a dampener. The exact vote share is expected to be declared shortly and a large number of supporters of all parties have assembled at the Students' Centre where the result will be formally declared. The elections in affiliated colleges have no bearing on the PU campus elections and in most colleges, authorities ensure that the council president is won unopposed with much political campaigning. On the PU campus, however, it was a week of active canvassing with students being taken to Kasauli and discotheques by both the alliances.
