Opposition steps up demand for CBI probe in Randhawa case
Chandigarh/Sangrur: The opposition in Punjab on Tuesday intensified its demand for a CBI probe into the death of warehousing corporation officer Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, with both BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) targeting the state government over the handling of the case.Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar said the party would meet governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday to seek a CBI inquiry. "The bereaved family will accept nothing less than a CBI probe, and we stand firmly with them," he said, adding that contradictions in the government's version had raised serious questions.Jakhar pointed to conflicting claims over whether former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar resigned or was asked to step down, and whether he surrendered or was arrested, alleging that these discrepancies undermined confidence in the investigation.Echoing the demand, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal urged chief minister Bhagwant Mann to recommend a CBI probe, questioning the government's response to alleged extortion-related cases linked to the incident. "The chief minister should tell Punjab why he has been silent on this issue for four years," he said.Sukhbir also accused the government of selective action and said the case warranted an impartial investigation to ensure justice. The opposition's coordinated push comes amid mounting political pressure on the state government over the case.
