Only 3 crop residue burning cases in Punjab, MP breaches 10k mark
Bathinda: Twelve days into the official wheat harvesting and marketing season, Punjab has reported just three crop residue burning cases. Madhya Pradesh leads the chart with 10,615 incidents, which is 81.6% of the total cases.On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh reported 1,814 out of the total 2,858 crop residue burning cases. The total count across the states so far this season climbed to 12,995.Notably, the harvesting of wheat in Punjab has been delayed due to unseasonal rainfall.In the last five years, MP has reported nearly 50% of the crop residue burning cases. Out of the 2,11,534 cases registered from the year 2022 till April 12, 2026, 1,05,301 have been reported from the state.Madhya Pradesh is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 48,351 cases, Punjab (47,980), Haryana (9,783), and Delhi (119).On Sunday, even Uttar Pradesh crossed Punjab in overall crop residue burning cases in the wheat harvesting season in the last five years.The maximum 1,681 stubble burning cases were reported from Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. Notably, 27 districts of MP and UP have reported more than 100 crop residue burning cases so far this harvesting season.
