CHANDIGARH: In a bid to learn moreabout the alleged nexus between cops and drug mafia, the Narcotics ControlBureau (NCB) has decided to summon five UT police personnel, includinghigh-profile SI Harinder Singh Sekhon, to join the probe relating to drugpeddler Harpal Singh, alias Raju. Confirming this to TOI, NCB zonaldirector Saji Mohan said, "It is necessary to take this step to know their(cops) side of the story," adding it was part of the ongoing inquiry. Thesummons would be issued as per the provisions of Section 67 NDPS Act.Sleuths said though the cops won't be arrested, they would have toappear within this week to record their statements and answer doubts that Raju'sstatement gave rise to. The peddler was arrested on July 10. Alongwith this, the cops would be questioned about other technical evidence collectedby the narcotics control agency, including the call details of their mobilesthat reportedly showed they had ���regular' conversations with Raju.Earlier, after the interrogation of high-profile drug peddler Raju,NCB exposed the nexus of UT police with the drug mafia. Constable Mohan Singh,who was summoned, was later suspended by the UT Police.
On August 5,Sekhon, along with head constables Baljit Singh, Sukhjinder, Kuldeep Singh andBichithar Singh, were suspended on the basis of a report submitted by the NCB,which opened a Pandora's box for the cops. This comes almost a monthafter UT IG SK Jain had claimed they had nothing to go ahead on the preliminaryinquiry. A fortnight later, he issued orders for the departmental inquiry ofthese cops. Meanwhile, the officials in NCB claimed they had enough proof tonail these UT police cops.
