Namdhari community’s history marked by sacrifice and dedication: J P Nadda
Hisar: The traditions of the Namdhari community represent a unique blend of patriotism, social reform and spiritual values, said Union cabinet minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Friday while addressing devotees at the Hola Mohalla festival held in Mastangarh village of Sirsa district on Friday. He said the community's history is filled with sacrifice, dedication and struggle, forming an important chapter in India's glorious past.Along with Nadda as the chief guest, Haryana agriculture minister Shyam Singh Rana and BJP state president Mohanlal Badoli were also present at the event.
Highlighting the significance of the festival, Nadda said the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, introduced Hola Mohalla as a tradition associated with the festival of Holi. He said the festival is not merely about colours but symbolises bravery, discipline and spiritual awakening. The Union minister also praised the Namdhari community for its role in social reforms. He said the community made notable contributions in areas such as stopping cow slaughter, promoting education, encouraging de-addiction and carrying out social service. Members of the community also extended assistance during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, earthquakes and floods. Nadda added that the Govt of India decided to observe Veer Bal Diwas every year in memory of the brave children of Sikh history so that future generations remember their courage and sacrifice. Paying tribute to Satguru Udai Singh, he extended greetings to devotees and called for strengthening unity, harmony and spiritual values in the country. He added that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the central govt is working continuously to bring the contributions of the Sikh community into the national mainstream. Addressing the gathering, Satguru Udai Singh said that Gurus and spiritual leaders belong not to a single community but to the entire world. He highlighted the contributions of Satguru Ram Singh, saying one of his greatest efforts was ensuring respect and rights for women. At a time when social evils such as female infanticide were prevalent, Satguru Ram Singh strongly opposed the practice and declared that those who killed or sold a girl child would not be accepted in the Sangat. He also noted that widows once faced extremely difficult and humiliating conditions in society. To address this, Satguru Ram Singh Ji revived the tradition of widow remarriage and gave women the right to live with dignity. He also started the practice of giving Amrit to women, granting them religious rights equal to men.
