Karnal: A woman and her 5 children, who were thrown out of the Mahila Ashram in Karnal, got surprise help from Haryana chief minister Manohar Lakl Khattar, who was in the town to inaugurate a library. On seeing the distressed woman, the CM stopped his cavalcade and got down from his car to listen to her grievances.
Poonam, who had been thrown out of the house by her husband 4 years back, had shifted to Mahila Ashram with her 5 children. Since then had been living here. About 9 months ago, local authorities issued her a notice asking her to vacate the premises.
After intervention by social workers and media, she was allowed to stay in the ashram.
However, the ashram authorities denied her ration in an attempt to push her out. On Friday morning, Poonam was again served a notice asking her to leave the ashram. Learning that CM Khattar was in town to preside over some functions, Poonam went to the venue where the CM inaugurated the library and a mobile science van.
However, she was prevented from meeting the CM by the security personnel. When Khattar was about the leave the venue, he saw Poonam making fervent pleas to the CM to lend her an ear. The CM ordered his staff to stop the cavalcade and got out of his car to meet the woman. After hearing her problem, the CM asked the district authorities to take corrective steps and ensure that the woman and her five children got a place to stay.
