During the checking, officials thoroughly inspected essential safety features in school buses, including CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers, first-aid boxes, and other mandatory equipment. Documents and compliance with prescribed transport norms were also verified. Buses found lacking required safety arrangements or violating traffic regulations were issued challans, and appropriate action was initiated under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police officials stated that primary objective of the drive was to strengthen student safety by ensuring strict adherence to traffic norms and operational guidelines for school transport vehicles.
Drivers were specifically instructed not to exceed the prescribed speed limits and to strictly follow designated routes and traffic rules.
Interacting with schoolchildren during the inspection, DSP (traffic) Karnail Singh advised the students to remain vigilant about their own safety. He urged them to immediately inform their school principal or senior teachers if they observed their bus driver speeding, driving on the wrong side, or violating traffic rules. He emphasised that timely reporting could help prevent untoward incidents.
The traffic police reiterated that such surprise checks would continue in the district to ensure full compliance with safety norms and to create a secure commuting environment for the schoolchildren.
