Illegal mining: 1,264 cases registered in 2025, 1,286 persons arrested

Chandigarh: The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, while tightening its grip on illegal mining activities, registered 1,264 cases and arrested 1,286 accused during last year.The Enforcement Bureau teams also conducted raids at 6,898 locations across the state in connection with illegal mining of soil/sand/gravel and seized 2,637 vehicles on the spot, revealed Ajay Singhal, director general of police, Haryana.
Singhal on Sunday said the Enforcement Bureau's vision for the year 2026 was centred on "smart, strict and sensitive enforcement". He stated that the Bureau would be developed as a technology-driven, result-oriented and fully accountable unit so that decisive action could be taken against illegal mining, power theft, illegal liquor, water theft and illegal activities related to urban development.In 2026, real-time data analytics, inter-departmental intelligence sharing and coordinated actions across the state will be further strengthened, said Singhal, adding that the objective of the Haryana Police was not limited to enforcement only, but also to establish fear of law and respect for rules, thereby building a safe, disciplined and development-oriented Haryana.According to information, a penalty of Rs 19.84 crore was imposed on people involved in illegal mining, out of which Rs 9.57 crore was recovered, while the process to recover the remaining amount was underway.With an objective to curb illegal mining activities, the State Enforcement Bureau teams inspected 6,898 mining sites during the year 2025. In this regard, 1,264 cases were registered and 1,286 persons were arrested and proceeded against. Out of these, 1,122 FIRs were already disposed of.Navdeep Singh Virk, chief of the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, informed that during the year 2025, the Enforcement Bureau conducted campaigns against illegal activities related to six departments.During these campaigns, 18,819 vehicles of the transport department were checked and out of these 14,111 vehicles were seized. Action was taken against the vehicle owners by imposing penalties amounting to more than Rs 57.47 crore, Virk added.MSID:: 127840947 413 |
