CHANDIGARH: Putting up a brilliant show in ICSE class-X exams, Dhruva Ratanpura of St Kabir School stood first across the Tricity with 96.71% marks. Harjeet Singh Kajal of Tender Heart School was second at 96%, just one mark more than Saruchi Aggarwal of Little Flower School, who bagged 95.86% marks.
As compared to last year's Class-X topper, this time's topper has scored .2% more.
Dhruva, who was ecstatic after topping the three cities, said he was working towards his aim, which is cracking the IIT-JEE. ''I am preparing for the entrance at Kota, Rajasthan. Determination, regular study and patience were the key to my success and helped me perform well and score over 95%,'' said Dhruva, who believes in self study.
Determined to achieve his goal, Dhruva, who scored 677 marks out of 700, has taken admission in a school at Kota and is staying alone.
His father Amit Ratanpura, a mechanical engineer, said a he was on top of the world and planning to throw a party for his son when he returned on Diwali. ''We never interfered in his studies and did not pressurize him to put in long hours,'' he said. The second across Tricity, Harjeet Singh Kajal scored 672 marks out of 700. Son of a civil engineer, Harjeet wants to become an engineer by cracking IIT-JEE. Delighted with the result, he said regular studies and hard work made him stand second. ''I had a target in my mind and it was that the marks must not drop below 90% even in school exams. I constantly studied and finally the hardwork paid off,'' he added.
His father, Som Lal Kajal, said, ''It is God's grace that my son has performed so well... I hope the good run will continue. This is the just the beginning.''
The third in Tricity, Saruchi Aggarwal, scored 671 marks out of 700. She said though earlier she wanted to be a doctor, her aim had changed to engineering after the counselling session. Saruchi, who loves drawing and painting, said consistent studies was the mantra. ''Hard work and regular studies can help us crack any exam,'' she said confidently.
Saruchi's father Rajinder Aggwaral, a businessmen, said his daughter had made him proud and proved that girls were in no way less when it came to studies.
