PANCHKULA: The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is planning to develop 20 group housing societies on 21.75 acre of land in place of illegal Gandhi Colony in Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), Sector 5. Around 1,000 shanties have encroached upon the land. The municipal corporation and the Huda have claimed to have removed 100 shanties so far. Officials said notices have been sent to illegal occupants to remove their hutments within a specified time, or action will be taken.

Huda chief administrator Ajit Balaji Joshi has visited the site and approved the project. The Huda has sent its plan to the state government for approval.

At the site, the Huda is also planning to develop a park on 4.31 acre of land, primary school on 0.30 acre of land, nursery school on 0.22 acre of land and reserve 2 acre of land for the construction of a hospital. A sewage treatment plant is proposed on 1.37 acre of land.

The officials said society residents will also have the benefit of Ayush AIIMS hospital a college and research centre that are under construction near the site.
