HS seeks report on heritage furniture theft from police

CHANDIGARH: Home Secretary (Chandigarh) Anurag Aggarwal has sought a detailed

report

from Chandigarh

police

over the issue of theft and recovery of four heritage chairs designed by French architect,

Le Corbuiser

, on Tuesday. The chairs were stolen from the

General Hostel

in Sector 15 on October 10. The stolen furniture was found abandoned packed in two jutebags from inside the hostel on October 17.

HS Aggarwal said, "It is a serious issue. The recovery of stolen heritage furniture does not mean that the investigation has been completed. I instructed the local police officials to catch the real culprits behind the theft. I will seek a report on the incident from the investigation agency."
Meanwhile, after the spot inspection, Chandigarh police had concluded that theft can not be possible without the assistance of somebody insider. Inspector Narinder

, SHO of PS 11, had also given ultimatum to all the lower staff members of General Hostel especially to peons, watchmen, sweepers and to contractual employees engaged for the whitewash of hostel building to face strict police action if the stolen chairs were not traced.

Two prime suspects, who are professional burglars and have been earlier arrested for stealing heritage furniture, are absconding from their houses since after the registration of FIR on October 15. Police have not ruled out the possibility of chances of stolen furniture to be smuggled out of the city and country by the thieves. Inspector Patial confirmed the recovery of chairs packed in two jute bags but refused to divulge the details about two missing burglars.
