Heatwave gips Haryana as Sirsa hits 46°C; respite expected by month-end
Sonipat: An intense heatwave continues to scorch Haryana, with temperatures breaching the 46°C mark on Tuesday. Relief from the blistering conditions is anticipated from May 29 to June 1, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts an approaching western disturbance that may bring thunderstorms, strong winds, and light rainfall.State weather data reveals that Haryana's average maximum temperature rose by 0.3°C on Tuesday, sitting 2.8°C above normal. Sirsa was the hottest district at 46°C, closely followed by Rohtak at 45.6°C. Other heavily impacted areas include Hisar and Bhiwani at 44.5°C, Narnaul at 44°C, and Nuh at 43.9°C, while districts like Gurugram and Jhajjar averaged between 42°C and 43°C.The heatwave has placed the state's livestock sector under immense stress, threatening animal health and milk production. The animal husbandry department has advised farmers to keep cattle indoors between 9am and 6pm, hydrate them at least four times daily, and fortify their feed with green fodder, jaggery, mineral mixtures, Shatavari, and Ashwagandha to combat dehydration.Simultaneously, wildlife authorities at Rohtak and Bhiwani zoos are using emergency cooling measures. Enclosures are being equipped with coolers, bamboo mesh screens, water sprinklers, and backup power generators. Carnivores like lions and leopards are being bathed up to four times a day, while other animals are being put on a diet of watermelon, muskmelon, and cucumber spiked with glucose and ORS solutions to regulate body temperatures.MSID:: 131331953 413 |
