Gurgaon’s Southern Peripheral Road to go signal-free, bids invited
Chandigarh: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Monday floated a tender for the development, maintenance, management and operation of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) from NH-48 to Vatika Chowk via an elevated corridor. The project will be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 755 crore and is expected to strengthen connectivity along this key corridor in the city.A department spokesperson said the project involves the upgradation of SPR into a signal-free corridor between Vatika Chowk and NH-48, providing a long-term solution for improving mobility and managing increasing traffic volumes in Gurugram. The elevated corridor will reduce congestion at ground level by creating an additional traffic layer, thereby easing bottlenecks and improving travel time, particularly during peak hours.
"The proposed infrastructure upgrade will benefit residents and commuters from several sectors located along and around the SPR corridor, including newly developing residential and commercial clusters," said GMDA CEO P C Meena. As part of the project, a 4.2 km-long, signal-free 4+4 lane elevated corridor will be developed between Vatika Chowk and NH-48. The design also includes 3+3 lane primary service roads and 2+2 lane secondary service lanes, along with 2-lane up and down ramps at key junctions to ensure smooth entry and exit of traffic. An interchange at NH-48 will also be constructed to provide seamless connectivity with the national highway network. The project will be completed within a stipulated period of 30 months from the date of award. MSID:: 129336545 413 |
