Giani Harpreet Singh attacks SGPC president, Punjab govt over ‘property loot and land sales’
Jalandhar: Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) president Giani Harpreet Singh on Thursday launched another attack on Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Harjinder Singh Dhami, alleging that he was letting the properties of the gurdwaras be looted. He also attacked the Punjab govt in the same vein, alleging that it sold off public properties to arrange funds for fulfilling its announcement of paying Rs 1,000 to women every month.Addressing a conference of the SAD (Punar Surjiti) at village Partapura, organised by party secretary general Gurpartap Singh Wadala, he said that after the Dec 2, 2024 pronouncement, he was victimised and a committee was formed to probe fake allegations against him levelled by an estranged and addict relative. He said a "concocted" report was used to remove him from his post of jathedar Takht Damdama Sahib, and now, after Darbar Sahib head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh's very serious allegations of wrongdoing in SGPC, a neutral committee should be formed for probe. He said the worst part was that Giani Raghbir Singh was pressured to issue a statement that the pronouncement from Akal Takht on Dec 2 was made under pressure from the RSS-BJP.
Turning towards the Punjab govt, he said, "When SGPC is selling its lands and squandering money, the Punjab govt is also not doing any less. They promised money to the women. First, Delhi-walas looted Punjab, and now they are selling lands to collect money to give it to women to form the govt again. In Bathinda, Rs 600 crore land is being sold; similarly, in Patiala and Mohali, they are selling land parcels. We are being looted, and the same money would be paid to us to form the govt again. But Punjab's voters will not get fooled this time.""They wasted Punjab's money in for propaganda of their party in other states, and now they don't have money for Punjab," he alleged, adding, "Those from Delhi were eyeing Punjab's money and assets."Responds to Dhami's warning Later, Giani Harpreet Singh issued a separate video statement after SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami's warning of filing a defamation suit. He dared Dhami to issue directives to managers of all the SGPC gurdwaras for filing defamation suits, stating that he would keep on pointing out irregularities. "Nothing is greater than truth and the dignity of the community. Holding those responsible for the community accountable is not a crime," he said. Repeatedly calling Dhami a sipahi (soldier) of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Giani Harpreet announced, "At the Hola Mohalla conference also, we would present the evidence, and later we shall come to your residence to hand over the evidence. We shall ask questions, but you would not have answers." "The entire community has been hurt, the way Gurdwara Amb Sahib has been sold off, and to which court Sikhs should go," he asked.
