Ferozepur: Punching her way onto the international stage, Sukhpreet Kaur, a Class XII student of Shaheed Gurdas Ram Memorial Government Girls' Senior Secondary Smart School in Zira, has earned a coveted spot at an international boxing exposure camp in Ireland, becoming the only student from a govt school in Punjab to make it to the national shortlist of 10 female boxers.
Sukhpreet has been state boxing champion for the past four years and has twice been named the Punjab's Best Boxer.

Giving details, Rakesh Sharma, school principal, said Sukhpreet cleared the trials conducted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Rohtak, thus securing her place among India's 10 selected female boxers.
Sukhpreet trained under international coach Lakshmi Verma and Paramjit Singh at the school. Currently, she is receiving coaching from Leeladhar at the SAI Training Centre (STC), Badal, Muktsar.
Coach Lakshmi Verma said it had always been her dream to take Sukhpreet to the international level, and today that dream has finally come true.
The Indian team that reached Ireland consists of 10 female and 10 male players, who will be part of the camp from Jan 27 to Feb 10, participating in various competitions.
