Natural Biodiversity

-- in association with

Divisional Library

(South), and Pigeon Watch Chandigarh -- organised an event ‘

Peace for Environment

’ at Divisional Library (South) in Sector-34 here, the highlight of which was a

fancy pigeon

show-cum-competition. The chief guest of the event was renowned scientist Dr Devinder Khurana from Natural Biodiversity, Rakesh Mohindra and Dr Arun Bansal and from Pigeon Watch Chandigarh Jaspreet Singh coordinated the event.

In charge Divisional Library (South) Parveen Khurana said the event would act as an outreach programme for the library, in addition to completing the social responsibility of propagating the goodness of nature. Dr Bansal and Jaspreet shared amazing facts about pigeons around the world, including painter Picasso who named his daughter Paloma (‘pigeon’ in Spanish). Pigeons can learn some letters of the alphabet and a bit of mathematics too. In countries like Japan, pigeons were used to monitor pollution levels.
