Chandigarh engineer dies at 'killer' crossing

CHANDIGARH: The light point of Sector 45/46/49/50 claimed another life late on Sunday. Manuj Sharma, 25, of Jalandhar was killed and two of his cousins were injured when their car was hit by a speeding Haryana Roadways bus at the light point on Sunday night.Manuj, an engineer, is the sixth person killed at the samelight point in the last six months.The injured, identified as Chetan Kumar, a resident of Sector 22 and Umang Sharma of Sector 34, were admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)-32.Police sourcessaid the three were coming from Zirakpur when the speeding bus (HR-38Q-2827) hittheir car from behind at the light point. The bus driver abandoned the vehicleand managed to escape from the spot. The bus was on its way toISBT-43.ASI Sohan Singh said while Manuj died on the spot, Chetan isin coma. Umang has suffered multiplex fractures on her body and is also admittedin GMCH-32.The deceased was working with a private firm and wasresiding in Sector 22 of Chandigarh. The body was handed over to his familymembers after the postmortem examination on Monday. A case was registered atSector 34 police station.
