Arms trafficking module busted, 2 held, arms recovered
Amritsar: The Amritsar commissionerate police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an arms trafficking module with the arrest of two persons and recovery of five sophisticated pistols from their possession.The arrested accused were identified as Rohit Arora (25), a resident of Gilwali Gate in Amritsar, and Harpreet Singh alias Happy (24), a resident of village Meerakot Kalan in Amritsar. The recoveries included three 9MM Glock and two .30 bore pistols.

Gaurav Yadav, director general of police, Punjab, said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms.The illegal consignments of arms were sent via drones and the accused further supplied these weapons on the directions of their handlers, said Yadav, adding that further investigations were ongoing.Sharing operational details, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, commissioner of police (CP), Amritsar, said acting on specific and reliable information, police teams carried out a well-planned operation and apprehended accused Rohit Arora, who was an associate of gangster Sonu Kangla.
During the search, three pistols were recovered from his possession, including one Glock and two .30 bore pistols, he said, adding that during further interrogation, on the disclosure statement of accused Arora, another accused, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, was also arrested with two Glock pistols.Both accused are habitual offenders with previous cases pertaining to snatching at gunpoint, under the Prisons Act, the Arms Act, and the NDPS Act registered against them, said Bhullar.They were also involved in narco-arms smuggling to make easy money, he added.A case was registered under Sections 25, 6, 7, and 8 of the Arms Act at police station Gate Hakima in Amritsar.MSID:: 128211125 413 |
