Ajay Chautala’s Nepal remark triggers political row in Haryana
Hisar: A statement by Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Ajay Singh Chautala referring to violent protests in Nepal has triggered a political controversy in Haryana, drawing sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Reacting to the remarks in Tohana, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala said Chautala's statement reflected a lack of faith in the democratic system, and is aimed at spreading unrest in society. He alleged that such rhetoric was intended to create an atmosphere of anarchy for political gain.Barala responded to Chautala's comments made at a public event, where the JJP leader urged people to unite and said that rulers should be "beaten" in a manner similar to developments witnessed in countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Referring to the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, Barala said that the public gave the JJP 10 seats, enabling it to form a coalition govt with the BJP. He alleged that despite this, JJP leaders were now making statements against the BJP. He further claimed that the public has "rejected" the JJP in the 2024 elections.
The BJP MP alleged that the JJP historically attempted to build its vote bank by fuelling political confrontation. He said that the youth of the country were now politically aware, and would not be misled by provocative statements. Barala expressed confidence that the public would respond to such politics through democratic means. It may be noted that Ajay Chautala, while addressing an event on Friday, said that youth should be ‘prepared' and referred to political developments in Nepal. He stated that when the time came, people should remove rulers from power and force them out, asserting that unity among youth was necessary to bring political change. MSID: 126323515 413 |
