4 nabbed for vehicle, car battery thefts
CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh police on Friday busted an auto lifters’ gang with the
Police seized 15 stolen two-wheelers, 16 car batteries, one gold chain, finger ring, gold bangle, earrings from the criminals.
With the arrest of the five, police claimed to have solved several criminal cases in IT Park, Manimajra and Industrial Area.
DSP (east division) Satish Kumar said the accused — identified as Shankar (18), Abdul Kadir (27), Suraj (28) and Varundeep Singh (21) — were residents of Manimajra area.
The DSP said Shankar, Abdul Kadir and a juvenile were arrested for vehicle lifting, robbery and theft in the area.
Acting on a tip-off, Manimajra police arrested Abdul Kadir in a robbery case. Acting on information provided by Abdul during interrogation, police later arrested Shankar and a minor. Police found 14 stolen two-wheelers from the trio.
While Suraj was arrested in a house theft case. The DSP said Suraj had allegedly stolen gold jewellery from his neighbour’s house. Anandita Ghosh, complainant in the case, had claimed that she had gone to Kolkata when the burglary happened. She suspected Suraj to be behind the crime. Police nabbed him and during interrogation, he confessed that he had stolen jewellery from her house. Cops found the stolen gold jewellery from the accused.
In another case, the IT Park police arrested Varundeep Singh from near a bridge in New Indira colony during a naka in the area. Though Varun tried to escape, police nabbed him. Police also found that the accused’s motorcycle was stolen. During interrogation, Varundeep revealed that he had stolen several car batteries in the area. On his disclosure, cops later seized 16 car batteries and a stereo.
Police said that all the accused were drug addicts and had taken to different crime to buy drugs for themselves. Police produced the accused before the local court, which sent to judicial custody. The minor accused was sent to a juvenile home.
