Chandigarh: The special
CBI court on Saturday sentenced two travel agents to four-year jail for sending people to Saudi Arabia illegally. A fine of Rs 82,000 was also imposed on both convicts, Sham Lal and
Mukesh Sharma, of a Sector 34-based travel agency. Earlier, they were acquitted by CBI’s judicial magistrate’s courts, after which the CBI challenged the verdict in the special CBI court last year.
The CBI had registered a case against both convicts seven years ago. The Public prosecutor said during court hearing that both convicts had obtained immigration clearance by sending people to Saudi Arabia on fake documents. In 2014, CBI searched the office of Protector of Immigrants in Sector 9 and found that 82 persons had been sent abroad on fake documents. The convicts sent unskilled workers abroad as skilled workers on fake papers. tnn
