Jharsuguda: The district administration on Monday rescued a 70-year-old man who was found lying on the roadside near Parmanpur village. A rescue operation was initiated after Gangadhar Makar alerted the administration through a social media comment about the man.
Responding to the comment, the district administration, under the direction of Jharsuguda district collector Kunal M Chavan, rescued the elderly man, Lelin Sa, and shifted him to Panchpada old age home.
Makar works as a driver. During night shift, he had seen Lelin sitting under a tree near the Parmanpur area. “Initially, I could not approach him as it was night. Later, during my day shift, I went up to him and asked about his identity. He told me he was from Korba in Chhattisgarh and did not know how he had reached here. He said he was very hungry. I provided him with water and food before leaving for work,” Makar said.
Later, he came across a post by the district magistrate about helping reunite a person with his family. “I commented to the post and shared details about this elderly man. Soon, I received a response assuring assistance,” Makar said.
Later that night, Kolabira inspector in-charge called him to inform that the man had been rescued and shifted to an old-age home.
